Today we are looking at the 2 of Wands and the amplifier cards. Let’s start with an image description for the 2 of Wands in the Rider Waite deck. The card shows a man dressed in a tan tunic and tights, red hat, brown robe and brown boots. He seems wealthy and well dressed and may possibly be a merchant watching the ocean for the return of his trading ships. He is standing on a balcony at the top of a castle on the edge of a bay and is looking out to sea. There are purple tinged mountains in the distance across the bay. In the foreground there are green trees and grass reaching down to the water’s edge. He holds a model of the globe in his right hand, close to his face. His left hand holds a tall staff that rests upon the balcony wall. A second staff is permanently fixed to the balcony wall behind the man. He appears to be standing still and patiently watching something in the distance across the ocean. His face is shown in profile. Delving into the essence of the card, we find decisions and a time of waiting. Nothing is happening yet, or very little. This is the energy of the string of a bow stretched back, waiting for the right time to shoot forward. Have a closer look at the lower of the two Wands. See how it’s bolted in place? You might be seeking something new in addition to what you already have. This is a great beginning to a venture, and the good news is that you are not sacrificing security in the pursuit of further success. This card is a good omen for any venture involving partnerships and working with others. When reversed or negatively aspected, someone may be trying to control you, or perhaps you are trying to control them. In the TarotCraft system, each card has an Invitation, Gift and Challenge. You can apply this to any Tarot deck, whereas the description given in the beginning only relates to the Rider-Waite deck, the most popular Tarot deck for new readers. The Invitation of the Two of Wands is that you are now invited to assert yourself and your personal power. This is an opportunity to broaden your horizon and to go after the things you truly desire with a level of confidence not previously on offer. The Gift of the Two of Wands is that you can achieve anything right now. You have the opportunity to make your mark on the world. In Tarot numerology, 2 denotes increase and evolution. These blessings are available to you now. The Challenge of the Two of Wands is the risk of being foolhardy and trusting to fate or destiny rather than making a plan and working the plan. Don’t risk what you already have for an uncertain future or reward. Be careful that confidence doesn’t become hubris and arrogance. You might be wondering what I mean by “amplifier” cards. An amplifier card is a card that enhances the meaning, or backs up the meaning, of another card. The 2 of Wands is an amplifier card for all of the Kings court cards, and especially the King of Wands. In Tarot, the number 2 and the element of Fire both relate to the King court cards. So if you have a King in your reading along with a card numbered 2, or a Wands card, it is letting you know that the King in your reading is very significant. You could even pull another card or two to get more insight into what the message of the King is. In terms of other amplifier cards, cards numbered 3 and with the element of Water both relate to the Queens. So that makes the 3 of Cups the amplifier for the Queen of Cups, and also the Queens generally. The 6 of Swords is the amplifier card for the Knights as 6 numbered cards and the element of Air relate to the Knights. The 10 of Pentacles is the amplifier card for the Pages, also known as Princesses in some decks, as 10 numbered cards and the element of Earth relate to the Pages. *background music* Thank you for joining me on the TarotCraft podcast.
