Something that is important to me as a Tarot reader and teacher is helping people to take action in relation to their reading. A reading should not be a passive thing. It should be a jumping off point for change and evolution. So I developed the TarotCraft system for anyone to not just read Tarot cards but to use them as catalyst for change in their lives. *background music* Welcome to the TarotCraft podcast. I’m Allison Jean, a Tarot enthusiast from Australia. Please join me on this mystic journey into the depths of Tarot and divination. In my very first episode, I’d like to introduce you to my TarotCraft system of reading the cards. Since I began reading the cards in the late eighties, it’s fair to say that I have done thousands of readings and taught hundreds of people to read Tarot. I have taught year-long, in-depth courses. I’ve taught short, snappy, three card reading techniques. I’ve taught in adult education centres, I’ve taught people in person in my home, I have taught over the phone and through the internet. The second benefit of the TarotCraft system is that you can apply the system to any Tarot deck. In the past, I’ve asked students to get a Rider Waite, or a clone of the Rider Waite, but no more. Use any deck that takes your fancy and the system will still work as long as it’s a Tarot deck. Ok, so, onto the system. Each card has within it an inherent Gift, Invitation and Challenge. The Invitation represents something the Tarot is inviting you to do. For example, you could be invited to take an action, or even to refrain from taking an action. You could be invited to consider a new perspective or a change of behaviour. The Gift represents something you have within you, or available to you, that will assist in resolving the question you’re asking the Tarot. This Gift may or may not be obvious, but it can be found if you look. The Challenge represents a difficulty you are facing which could be anything from a momentary obstacle to an extensive life lesson. For example, you may ask “What Invitation does the Tarot have for me today?” Or focus on a specific question and ask “What am I being Invited to understand in relation to this situation”. Then you would pull a card to represent the Invitation and take the action suggested. You might be brave and ask “What Challenge does the Tarot have for me today?” Or focus on a certain situation and ask “What Challenge does the Tarot have for me in relation to this situation?” Then pull a card and prepare to evolve. A Challenge faced always leads to evolution and growth. In a three card reading, you might focus on a situation where you need guidance, so pull three cards to each represent the Invitation, the Gift and the Challenge. Now, here’s the thing. The Gift is the key to solving the Challenge. So if you pull a card for the Challenge, always pull a card for the Gift that you are graced with in order to overcome the Challenge.
